At the dawn of the 21st century a new breed of DJ has emerged on the circuit. Media-savvy, musically diverse, technically gifted and with an eclectic sense of rhythms and grooves, Construct is a shining example of the power of the digital age. Construct’s palate enjoys all types of breaks from stomping 70 BPM Dubstep to aggressive DNB sets, treading even to 200 BPM Breakcore. Even his B-more inspired Electro sets have a funky syncopation to his cuts and mixing that both hypnotizes and energizes dance floors.

A bricklayer in the Canadian Bass Music scene, he is the founder of the popular J’aime Le Dubstep mix series, the BreakBeat Elite crew and was responsible for the very popular CKDU.ca show Broken Science Radio. His resume of artists that he’s shared a stage with reads like a who’s who of North American Dubstep music including Starkey, ill.Gates, Luke Envoy, Dj Lord, 6Blocc, 0=0, RSD, DZ, Mark Instinct, Sixtoo, Redeyz, XI, Bombaman, Sase One and Freedom Danish. With JLD drawing in international recognition and tour dates popping up Construct is a definitive source of cutting edge Bass Music that pleases the booty shakers and the serious heads every time he blows up a party.

Construct currently releases a weekly J’aime Le Dubstep podcast on iTunes & Wickedbad.net. Teamed up with Vilify, he plays on JUNGLETRAIN.net every Monday 7-9pm EST, SUB.FM every Friday 9-11pm EST and their weekly event Bass Drive Wednesdays at Koï Bar, a staple in the Montreal Dubstep scene.

- A 10-City Hunt for Canada’s Best Party Rocker DJ -

Time to get the party started and ignite club goers across Canada fifteen minutes at a time. Red Bull Thre3style is preparing for rotation around the country, one city at a time giving each DJ their fifteen minutes of fame. Hitting 10 cities across Canada, Red Bull Thre3Style will feature eight of the best local DJs throwing down their best party sets followed by a special performance from Canadian DJ legend Skratch Bastid.

In 2010 Red Bull Thre3Style is a competition to crown the World’s most versatile Party-Rock DJ . The industry’s top talent – music writers, musicians, promoters, bloggers and headlining DJ’s – will judge the DJs and evaluate each performer based on creativity, track selection, skills, stage presence, and audience response. The winner of each stop will move on to the National Final set to take place in Toronto on Saturday, March 13, 2010 as part of Canadian Music Week. The winner of the Canadian National Final will earn a trip to play at the World Final in Paris, France in December 2010 and compete against winners from 13 countries and be crowned the first Global Red Bull Thre3Style Champion.

A Brief History of Liquid DNB:

In 2000, Fabio began championing a new form of drum and bass he called “Liquid funk”, with a compilation release of the same name on his Creative Source label. This was characterized by influences from disco and house music, and widespread use of vocals. Although slow to catch on at first, the style grew massively in popularity around 2003-2004, and by 2005 it was established as one of the biggest-selling subgenres in drum and bass, with labels like Good Looking Records, Hospital Records, Liquid V, Shogun Limited, Fokuz Recordings, State of the Art Recordings and artists like Calibre, High Contrast, Logistics, London Elektricity, Nu:Tone and Solid State among its main proponents.]

Liquid funk is very similar to intelligent drum and bass, but has subtle differences. Liquid funk has stronger influences from soca, latin, disco, jazz, and funk music, while IDB creates a calmer yet more synthetic sound, using smooth synth lines and samples in place of the organic elements achieved by use of real instruments.

On the 1st October 2007 High Contrast brought Liquid Funk back to the mainstream with his album, Tough Guys Don’t Dance, releasing tracks such as If We Ever (Featuring Diane Charlemagne) which made BBC Radio 1′s Dance singles chart, Kiss Kiss bang Bang and Tread Softly. This ended up “crossing over” and becoming one of the most listened to Drum and Bass album’s of 2007. The success of Liquid Funk never left the mainstream, and was followed by Mistabishi’s No Matter What being played on daytime radio, Chase and Status’s More Than Alot album charting and the Brookes Brother’s single Tear You Down hitting Dance charts.

The first installement of our brand new series sees 23 year old Mark Instinct from Canada step to the task of mashing together his favourite beats along with giving us a sneak preview to the forthcoming filth from his lab.

Mark has been DJing for the past 7 years, and producing since an even earlier age. He started out making house under a different alias, had a couple of tunes signed to Total Recordings in Italy and Fluent Recordings in Canada but moved into Dubstep about a year ago and fell in love.

The release “Sketchy Maxx” was in Digital Tunes and Trackitdown top 10 for 3 weeks running. It has since been remixed by the likes of Trillbass, Emu, Pawn, Richie August, RSK, Kellydean + some! Having been signed to Aufect, Rottun and Betamorph Recordings for a load of forthcoming material, as well as an EP on Shift and an album on Trillbass, I’m sure you’ll be seeing this name all over the place soon. To top this, Enough of the chat, time to get your bassbins pumpin.
