Bass Rebel Radio 07.09.09 Liquid Stylez with Buck Banger and Method

bassrebelradiobanner

Until last night I had not been truly introduced to liquid drum and bass.  For those of you not familiar, liquid is similar to intelligent or atmospheric drum and bass, but with more influences from disco and house music.  There are more layers and of course more vocals and the result is something one part jazzy, one party drum and bassy, and one part smooth as silk.  If I wasn’t before, I am definitely a fan now and will start adding some tracks to my repertoire.  As always of course I have put the show up for download and stream with the links after the tracklisting.

DjDvD – The Weekend – Sunday – 2008 – Midtempo/Breaks

My most recent breaks offering of this year, “Sunday” starts off at about 100bpm with slow grovin’ breaks and funky FUNKY ass basslines and vocals.  The only thing that changes throughout the course of the 80 minute set is the tempo.  By minute 80 we’re back up to 140bpm and still funky as hell.  Part of a 3 disc set celebrating the weekend, this set is meant to be played on Sunday.

This was supposed to be the first of a 3 disc compilation spanning breaks, DnB and dubstep.  Unfortunately I never got around to recording the other 2 discs – I never really finished this one to be fair, so if its a little sloppy – hey, aren’t we all sometimes?

Criminal Intent – The Break Out! – 2006 – DnB

David Mackenzie (DjDvD, DJ Phelon) and Ryan MacGillivary (The Gill T One) when combined form the dazzling duo of Criminal Intent.  Anything dark evil and diry will suffice.  This is basically an exact duplicate of the set we played opening up the Evolve Festival DnB tent the summer of 2006.  I know some people still remember that WILD time under the tent in the rain with all that mud.  I have never seen so many people so muddy and having such a great time.

My double disc release – in case you hadn’t figured it out I had completely moved to broken beats by this point.  CD1 is still one hell of a rockin’ breakbeat set and CD2 is a hard rockin’ DnB set, mixed by my alter-ego “DJ Phelon”.  The DnB set was partially inspired by my partner in crime, The Gill T One.  See “Criminal Intent” above.

DjDvD – Kickin’ it up a Notch – 2005

Hot on the heels of Bad Music I was still in the breaks/house phase.  Starts off pretty damn badass, gets a little funky and then right back to the dirt.  Some Prodigy on this one, and my favorite remix of a Jefferson Airplane track I’m sure everyone knows.

One of the oldest sets of myself I have from the digital era.  Pretty much everything before this was recorded onto cassettes which have unfortunately been lost forever.  I was just getting out of my funky house phase and moving into breakbeats and it shows.  I showcase a little from both sides with some interesting mixes and some vocals over top.
