Bass Rebel Radio 02.04.10 – Halifield Represents! Buck Banger and Method

bassrebelradiobanner

OMFG a new podcast!  As most of you probably know we’ve had some issues at the station lately relating to… well everything – the stream was down for what seemed like forever, the archiving has been down so no new podcasts – even the transmitter has had problems as we’ve been moving it to its new home at the CBC.  Things are slowly returning back to normal however,  the stream is back in action, the archiving is slowly getting fixed and with our new transmitter positioning we’ll be able to cover more of Halifax for your bass appreciation pleasure!

So there’s a new show this week to add to the podcast!  Just this week we’ve started a new monthly with the residents of The Halifield Movement the first Thursday of every month… except when it won’t be :)   Up this week our good friends Buck Banger and Method for about 85mins of Drum and Bass – liquid, ragga jungle, even some jump up towards the end.

WARNING: The sound quality is not fantastic, the input on the stream/archiving machine was cranked so I had to do some creative editing (ie: drop the right channel and mono the left) just to make it sound decent.  I have alerted the proper authorities and this issue should be fixed up next week!  Thanks and keep listenin!

----------------------------------
Born in the backwoods of Cape Breton, a small island off the coast of Nova Scotia, DVD (aka Dave Mackenzie) brings the same passion and energy to his music that he does to life. He specializes in extremes - dark and funky, black and white, good and evil. This intoxicating blend of house and breaks will take you on a rollercoaster ride leaving you a little dazed, confused, and physically and mentally exhausted.

DVD’s musical journey begins like so many do, in his youth. His first gig was playing cassette tapes for a school dance at the tender age of 13 where he rocked his first crowd and many, many more. In fact he soon branched out and began blowing up venues all over the lower coast of Cape Breton and the mainland of Nova Scotia. In the summer of 1998 he traded in his minidics and cassettes and bought his first pair of turntables, diving headlong into the seedy world of electronic music. He hasn’t looked back since.

A residency with Underdog Productions - the hottest production company in Halifax - and a member of the EvolveTribe, DVD has played alongside legends like Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Lee Coombs, Ali B, Mark Farina, Stacy Kidd, Doc Martin and Rennie Pilgrim. An no one has forgotten the massive opening set laid down before DJ Dan and Donald Glaude in April 2008. Be it a crowd of thousands or just 1 DVD is sure to delight and amaze as he brings a little something for everyone.

Buck Banger
The Halifield Movement
----------------------------
Tim Barrett never met a breakbeat he didn't like. Beginning his dj journey in 2002 he was a bonified hip hopper through & through but still had an enormous love for electronic music, so he found himself trying to blend hip hop acapellas over techno records. In early 2005 he bought a few drum n bass vinyls @ the local record shop & instantly became an addict for jungle music.

After cutting his teeth on any dnb that came his way he started developing a style of his own when he discovered the sounds of Ragga Jungle. The earthy riddims & beats fused with dem reggae vocals he knew where his head would always be...deep in the heart of the Jungle.

Now, with the emergence of dubstep onto the world stage he feels as though his musical influences have come full circle into a particular style that can be just as tough as dem ragga sounds but with a hip hop swagger & a drum n bass crunch.

7 years & a hundred or so shows later, Buck Banger is @ the height of his abilities as well as who he is as a dj & as a hypeman. Ready, willing & able to rock crowds on the mic or the turntables, he's sure to impress as he will always give you more Bang fo ya Buck!

Rekkid Bitch Mike
Dubalicious Wednesdays
-----------------------------
Rekkid bitch mike has been around for years and knows his beats . he has gone from trance to house to breaks to trip hop, to hip hop .... but now he makes drum and bass his standing sound ,with some super tight scratching .. . all you need to know is, when he hits the decks there no standing still!

Bass Rebel Radio 07.09.09 Liquid Stylez with Buck Banger and Method

bassrebelradiobanner

Until last night I had not been truly introduced to liquid drum and bass.  For those of you not familiar, liquid is similar to intelligent or atmospheric drum and bass, but with more influences from disco and house music.  There are more layers and of course more vocals and the result is something one part jazzy, one party drum and bassy, and one part smooth as silk.  If I wasn’t before, I am definitely a fan now and will start adding some tracks to my repertoire.  As always of course I have put the show up for download and stream with the links after the tracklisting.

Pendulum – 9000 miles
pendulum – Different
Pendulum – Propane Nightmares
Ultima C – Gimmie more sunlight
B – Complex – Beautiful lies
Brooks Bros – Tears you down
Atlantic Connection – Evening Star
Brother – Just say dub
Danny Byrd – Gold Rush
Concept & Shank – Bedford Avenue (ft. DJ crum)
Danny Byrd – Junction 18
RZA – The Walk (Redeyes remix)
London Electricity – Just one second
Kiro & Subsonic – Hold On
KG – Life
Shy FX – Feelings (nu tone remix)
Atlantic connection – Diamonds and war
Session & Superking – Walk Away
Redeyes – Soul Siesta
L.A.O.S. – Star Woul
KG – Lost in this world
Muffler – Hear me Scream
