Kick Ass Link of the Week – Tutorials for all!

Kick ass link of the week is a day late this week (sorry bout that!).   In case you didn’t know, this is the week of ridiculousness (in a good way)!  5 shows in 6 days and I’m pumped as hell – after Bass Rebel Radio this evening (with my guests Professor J and Burnto) yours truely will be playing Halifield Presents at The Paragon.  Tomorrow night of course is It’s a Wickedbad Xmas with Ill.Gates! The grimest Christmas Party in town!

This week’s KALOTW features a TON of tutorials, and boy do I mean a ton!  First up:

For all you Ableton users out there (myself included) here is a wonderful little thread from the Ableton forums with more tutorials than you can shake a stick at!  THERE  ARE ALMOST 80 TUTORIALS ON THIS PAGE – from sidechain compression, to vocoding to glitching, arpeggiator tips to everything in between.  This is the ultimate list of Ableton tutorials:

Next up is probably my favorite tutorial site out there at the moment,  Music Tech Tutorials.  These guys are not DAW dependent, so there are tutorials for Logic, Cubase, FL Studio and Reason as well as Ableton Live.  All tutorials are in video form (which is nice) and topics covered include FX, synth patches and general audio production tips like how to properly use of multiband compression and much more!

Enjoy this wealth of information and hope to see you out this weekend!  Come back tomorrow for the most recent episode of BASS REBEL RADIO!
PEACE and BIG BASS

Bass Rebel Radio 12.10.09: BEE-EYE and DVD!

bassrebelradiobanner

Man I miss breakbeats.  BEE-EYE came into the studio last night for a great set of oldschool, nuskool and funky breaks and electro – good times right from the get go.  Unfortunately we had a slight technical malfunction in the last 10 minutes and I didn’t feel like hearing me stammer through five whole minutes of dead air :)   Up till then though we were really bumpin.  Stream and download links after the tracklist.

Tracklist:
Vandalism – She Got It (Jay Hamilton and Lee Fraser remix)
KnightChild – Breakfast for Champs
Dave Spoon – Lummox Plump Djs Remix
Hatiras Feat. MC Flipside – Blahsted
Lazy Jay – Tomahawk
Break the Box – Walk Out Lightning
Loops of Fury – Flick a Switch
Jelo and Adam K – The Good the Bad
Mickey Slim – Hit the Club
Paul Simon – Whats that noise?
Myagi & The Root Sellers – How to Test (Nick Thayer remix)
Breaking News – That Booty (BreakZHead Remix)
Funk Republic – Oh (Calvertron remix)Funk Republic
Fort Knox Five – The Party Pushers

Take it to the house – Cut N Run

PRESENTS

WE ARE ELECTRIC W/ DJ DVD

Now we need to take our hats off to 1 of the BIGGEST & MOST TALENT DJ Nova Scotia has ever have...."DJ DVD"....WOW!, Let's get ready on Saturday, January 30th for this night is going to be out of control. We also have other DJS on this HUGE BILL....w/ HAZIM, MATT KOMPLAIN and we can't forget about GLITCH.

DVD: The Bio

Born in the backwoods of Cape Breton, a small island off the coast of Nova Scotia, DVD (aka Dave Mackenzie) brings the same passion and energy to his music that he does to life. He specializes in extremes - dark and funky, black and white, good and evil. This intoxicating blend of house and breaks – and maybe dubstep or DnB - will take you on a rollercoaster ride leaving you a little dazed, confused, and physically and mentally exhausted.

DVD’s musical journey begins like so many do, in his youth. His first gig was playing cassette tapes for a school dance at the tender age of 13 where he rocked his first crowd and many, many more. In fact he soon branched out and began blowing up venues all over the lower coast of Cape Breton and the mainland of Nova Scotia. In the summer of 1998 he traded in his minidics and cassettes and bought his first pair of turntables, diving headlong into the seedy world of electronic music. He hasn’t looked back since.

His mission is to push bass out to the masses, forming the WICKEDBAD.net collective as a means to deliver music and performers to the world. The host of Bass Rebel Radio, a weekly show on CKDU in Halifax, is dedicated to bringing East Coast and Canadian electronic music to the forefront of everyone’s minds.

A resident with Underdog Productions and a member of the EvolveTribe, DVD has played alongside legends like Meat Katie, Dylan Rhymes, Lee Coombs, Ali B, Mark Farina, Stacy Kidd, Doc Martin and Rennie Pilgrim. An no one has forgotten the massive opening set laid down before DJ Dan and Donald Glaude in April 2008. Be it a crowd of thousands or just 1 DVD is sure to delight and amaze as he brings a little something for everyone.
