Bio:

Back in the day it was all hippy jam bands for Lao. He had entertained his dad’s wishes for him to learn highland drumming for a few years, but once reaching the level of the Antigonish Highland Society Pipe Band, as well as playing in one highland games, Lao realized that he truly did not love wearing a kilt as much as his father did, and so left the band. It was during this period that he became interested in the East Coast jam band scene, an interest which led him to the nearby Evolve Music Festival. Hearing much more than simply jam bands, Lao was exposed to house music radiation… after that he was never really the same.  Bad Boy Bill’s “Behind the Decks” could be heard playing at all hours. He even learned how to dance.  Finally, in 2007 at Evolve 8, Lao found his true calling as he witnessed Johnny Sleep Dep’s epic, lightning-storm-defying performance. And as the mighty Zeus cast down his bolt in time with the drop, Lao saw the power one could wield with dirty electro. Being naturally power-hungry, Lao knew that he wanted to become a DJ, and moreover, that he would spin Electro.

For over two years now Lao has been honing his mixing skills while living and going to school in Halifax, NS. The fruits of these labours have seen him return to Evolve, this time as an artist, playing alongside two other Antigonish locals in the group GT FCKD. Among other shows around Halifax, the group also recently had the pleasure of opening for the infamous, Lucky Date.

With no plans to slow down, but very bad time management skills, Lao feels he must postpone his aspirations to begin producing until he finishes his undergrad at the University of King’s College. In the meantime however he will content himself with following the work of others and bringing the very best of it to the attention of the local, dance-music public.

“This set, entitled “Peewee’s Sermon”, is a promotional mix I did at the beginning of February. I had planned on rerecording it to buff out a few of the scratches, but listening to it again, I think, fuck it.”

Please Comment and Enjoy!

Bilbo Banginz has been ravaging dance floors throughout Nova Scotia’s hot spots over the last twelve months with his signature blend of funk and electro, combined with his own style of artistically woven mixes.

While adding himself to an already profound list of Antigonish bred DJs, Banginz has etched his name into the electronic music scene in Atlantic Canada by being crowned champion of the Club 1668 Battle of the DJs, and by playing with his electro house power trio, the Nish Mafia, more commonly known as GT FCKD, at the Evolve Music & Awareness festival.

Now as he is currently holding down a residency with Halifax’s GTM Group as a member of GT FCKD, and working with other Halifax Nightlife operations such as Wickedbad.net, and the BigCityNights Production House, Bilbo Banginz has become a student of both the art of DJing, and Halifax`s blooming dance music culture.

A fiend for all things EDM, when it comes to Bangsworth’s taste in music it’s melodically schitzophrenic to say the least. 5 years ago when Jules stepped behind a set of turntables for the first time, one thing happened – one big ass, broken beat, bass music love affair. Over the past 5 years, playing gigs from Vancouver to her hometown of Halifax, Jules has developed a seamless blend of Nurage breaks, Electro and Dubstep that is all her own. The newest edition to the Halifield Movement is ready to terrorize your speakers. Listen loud.

Bio:

Snug was introduced to electronic music in the mid to late 90s by way of Ottawa’s College and University radio station. He was instantly hooked and started DJing his music of choice, hard-as-nails techno and drum & bass. He gained exposure quickly and within a couple years had played several major events on bills with such talent as DAVE the Drummer, Mark EG, Mistress Barbara and Total Science, to name a few.

Fast forward to today: after a relocation to Halifax and a couple CDs under his belt, Snug is back at it again. This time he’s traded in his bulky turntables and heavy vinyls in favour of a purely digital setup. He’s also changed musical directions, choosing to focus on all things deep, be it deep house, melodic drum & bass or downtempo. Make no mistake though, he’s always ready to return to his old dirty ways at the drop of a hat!
