Bio:
Back in the day it was all hippy jam bands for Lao. He had entertained his dad’s wishes for him to learn highland drumming for a few years, but once reaching the level of the Antigonish Highland Society Pipe Band, as well as playing in one highland games, Lao realized that he truly did not love wearing a kilt as much as his father did, and so left the band. It was during this period that he became interested in the East Coast jam band scene, an interest which led him to the nearby Evolve Music Festival. Hearing much more than simply jam bands, Lao was exposed to house music radiation… after that he was never really the same. Bad Boy Bill’s “Behind the Decks” could be heard playing at all hours. He even learned how to dance. Finally, in 2007 at Evolve 8, Lao found his true calling as he witnessed Johnny Sleep Dep’s epic, lightning-storm-defying performance. And as the mighty Zeus cast down his bolt in time with the drop, Lao saw the power one could wield with dirty electro. Being naturally power-hungry, Lao knew that he wanted to become a DJ, and moreover, that he would spin Electro.
For over two years now Lao has been honing his mixing skills while living and going to school in Halifax, NS. The fruits of these labours have seen him return to Evolve, this time as an artist, playing alongside two other Antigonish locals in the group GT FCKD. Among other shows around Halifax, the group also recently had the pleasure of opening for the infamous, Lucky Date.
With no plans to slow down, but very bad time management skills, Lao feels he must postpone his aspirations to begin producing until he finishes his undergrad at the University of King’s College. In the meantime however he will content himself with following the work of others and bringing the very best of it to the attention of the local, dance-music public.
“This set, entitled “Peewee’s Sermon”, is a promotional mix I did at the beginning of February. I had planned on rerecording it to buff out a few of the scratches, but listening to it again, I think, fuck it.”
